My mum would have loved this. She passed away just over a year ago, and her “embroidery room” is still filled with her supplies and various Brother embroidery machines. I’d love to catalogue everything and get everything working again - however all the software was built for Windows XP / Vista so it will be good to have alternate options.

This is great. My mom does embroidery as a hobby and I’ve been curious about how to make designs. They’re incredible machines

and the software for those kind of machines is extremely expensive and they don't support older models very well.

I got into embroidery as a break from software engineering. Then, I got into machine embroidery and found myself running inkstitch in a docker container and submitting GitHub issues. Whoops!

Can't speak highly enough of the inkstitch maintainers, though--really welcoming community!

My wife has a Bernina embroidery machine and the software is simply terrible and overpriced for the upgrades you need to do - it uses a security dongle in order to operate.

My mom also uses Bernina; newer versions don't need the dongle but do install a 'driver' as part of the copy protection. She runs the software in a VMWare Fusion Windows ARM VM running on an M1 macbook air; I'm astonished that it works.
