I am not battling anyone's opinion, you ask for the cost of the monitor and that kind of 17" consumer monitor that you see in picture on the parent blog post cannot be bought new anymore, the only 15 and 17" screens on the market are POS tactiles screens, industrial ones with metal frames or portable ones.
I am happily separating the cost of monitor in the desktop world anyway as user don't tend to replace them at the same frequency as the compute unit. For example, my dad only bought 5 different monitors in 40 years.
It is well documented that the Antikythera mechanism could predict solar and lunar eclipses. The device's operation was based on 7th century BC Babylonian astronomy, specifically the Saros cycle, and Greek astronomy. The theory and data was definitely present in Thales' time.
The Antikythera mechanism is 4 centuries after Thales, during which time there was extensive additional study done by Greek astronomers. Evidence of old solar eclipse predictions seems pretty sparse; I can't figure out when the first successfully predicted solar eclipse was that we are certain about.
