Only 1 point behind the Chinese SOTA from two months ago.

I had qwen 3.8 3bit model drop into chinese on long runs. I had to remind it to use english. Its still better than every gemma model I tried. Gemma deleted files on a harddrive to make space when there was over 2TB free. For long runs, gemma is useless.

If you care about points sure, but personnaly I care about price, performance, speed and reliability

Half the people on here are using Ollama. No one is doing market research.

LLMs have been found to have the same activations for the same concepts regardless of what language the question is asked in. So the answer is that they don’t do logic in a particular language either, they use their own internal symbolic representations.

Literally the highest tier ChatGPT that was available in 2025 can be run on a consumer laptop with Chinese AI now. Their regulations were obsolete before they put any words on paper.

I’m against it because the EU should be at the forefront of science and technology.

Lot of the stuff regulated don't arise on locally run llm's. No ads targeting minors, no real dark patterns, no bans without reason, no personalized feed without possibility to opt out. maybe i forgot something.

The regulations are for OpenAI the corporate entity, not the technology. Doesn't matter how cutting edge you are if you don't behave responsibly.

I fail to see what this has to do with anything.

With characteristic tunnel vision it is applying rules to ChatGPT it will never apply to Kimi K3

Kimi K3 is an LLM so completely separate to the conversation at hand.

The DSA doesn't apply to models, it applies to businesses operating as Platforms with more than 45 million monthly users in the EU.

If you were to use Kimi K3 via kimi.com or the Moonshot API, your data is processed in China, a country without an EU adequacy decision, nevermind an obligation to operate as a business/platform in the EU.

Host Kimi K3 in the EU as a commercial offering, hit 45 million average monthly users in the EU, and now Kimi K3's Host is considered a Very Large Online Search Engine under the EU’s Digital Services Act.

> Damaging military equipment is absolutely outside any useful definition of terrorism.

I hope no one takes this seriously.

If you're caught sabotaging equipment on a US military installation in many cases they are authorized to use deadly force and you'll be held accountable under the UCMJ. The absolute best outcome is you're designated a terrorist and live to see a prison cell.

Terrorism used to be defined as attacking civilian targets to aid in political messaging.

Attacking military targets is somewhere between an insurgency, partisanism, or an armed conflict.

If we let terrorism mean “any act against the state”, then people who burn police cars are the same as people who plant bombs in shopping malls.

> Terrorism used to be defined as attacking civilian targets to aid in political messaging.

Not consistently, and its not a clear definition.

The same groups that attacked civilians in places I have lived in also attacked military targets as part of the same strategy. Terrorism is used to threaten, divert resources from front lines, cause economic damage, etc. Civilian targets are attacked in most wars. Is a car bomb outside a military barracks that different from one in a civilian area? What about a suicide bomb aimed at a sentry on a civilian road? I was about to drive past that one. Are the civilians who were killed collateral damage from an attack on a military target or victims of terrorism?

> people who burn police cars

So people who attack a civilian target. By your own definition they are terrorists if they are doing it for political motives.

A police car is not a human being.

If the same group attacks civilian and military targets then the civilian targets are terrorism and the military targets are not.

If terrorism is defined as X, that isn't in contradiction with someone who does X and also Y and Z being a terrorist.

Yeah but it's not terrorism. Words have meanings you know.

I have 2x 3090s and I get 260 tokens/sec peak (110 avg) with Dflash2 and about 1500t/s prefill with a Q4 quant of Qwen 27b. I didn't buy an overpriced Apple product and it performs much better. It's extremely reliable for Agentic coding and I can run 2-3 simultaneous agents with a full ~260k context window.

I realize the price of NVIDIA has gone up but there are plenty of GPU options from others like AMD and Intel with reasonable performance.

Ollama? Running a q1 quant? I don't think the writer knows what the are doing here to be honest.

You will get better information cruising r/localllama for about 10 minutes.

This is a problem that Hugging Face could easily help solve.

Crawling through Reddit or forums to find the right incantation to run a model is frustrating.

There are many, many people who are betraying a lack of facility with these models.

Why is anyone trying to run these on an M3?

I thought it was common knowledge that, if you insist on using Apple, only M5 processors and higher have matrix multiplication units in the cores?

I've seen the same thing with people buying NVidia cards with 16GB of ram and wondering why they aren't getting 100tok/s?

Guys, please, be reasonable. You'll have to get the hardware if you want to run these things fast. If you want to experiment, the slow stuff is fine. But try not to get on HN and ask why your M3 can't get 100tok/s. You're kind of out-ing yourself.

Please explain why tariffs a "good thing" to protect a French winery but a "Bad thing" when it is used to protect an American worker.

Everyone loves the EU and Canada and their tariffs. In Canada for example American poultry and dairy have as much as 200-500% tariffs. Usually it is seen as a big win to prevent undercutting the working class with cheap foreign labor. But as soon as it has any association with Trump all of a sudden the Progressives forget everything they believe in and turn into laissez faire libertarian capitalists.

> In Canada for example American poultry and dairy have as much as 200-500% tariffs.

In the US the dairy industry is supported through subsidies. In Canada the dairy industry is supported through supply management.

If the US would be willing to stop 'artificially' supporting their farmers (and allowing some to go bankrupt) then perhaps Canada would be willing to stop 'artificially' supporting theirs. Otherwise it's a tom-ay-to/tom-ah-to stand-off.

Who is "Everyone"? EU is trying in various ways to reduce tariffs, like (biggest example I know): Mercosur, to quote "both the EU and Mercosur will gradually reduce import duties on 91–92% of exports" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU%E2%80%93Mercosur_Partnershi...).

Of course European farmers complain (they will get competition and potentially lower quality products), so yes, some people like the current tariffs.

Behind every tariff there will be an interest group. If you are producing X in a country and there is an import tariff on X you are happy. If you are buying X you are not happy.

There can be strategic industries that you want to encourage, but the issue is if tariffs are applied with a plan or not. Opinions might differ on this one but history will tell.

I'd love it if chicken breast in Canada was cheaper. I think maybe there need to be some controls or regulation so meat coming from the US isn't lower quality than what we currently have but if the price went down i wouldn't complain

It's breaking EXISTING free trade deals that's angering people. And also using them as geopolitical cudgels against allies. Every country has protectionist measures in various sectors, trade deals are decades-long work to chip away at them in a way that's agreeable to everyone involved.

Liberals and progressives don't agree on most things related to (free) trade, but agree on not "bullying" allies for no reason and little profit.

> but agree on not "bullying" allies for no reason and little profit.

This is what confuses me most about Trumps tactics. These are longtime friends and allies who would’ve gladly worked together to try to improve any perceived imbalances.

I cannot fathom treating a friend this way. It makes no sense to me and is destructive.

It’s not logical. He is a malignant narcissist and a sociopath. A very sick man.

Most people in the US have a car, and the average new car is $40,000. Hell where I live a middle class consumer will spend double that on a Boat or an RV and think nothing of it. These aren’t elite tech workers.

It’s not unfathomable that if a personal, generally intelligent local AI provides enough utility and doesn’t require you to tweak CLI flags millions of Americans would want one.

There are many payday loan operators and those willing to sell predatory loans to those workers you mention buying boats or RVs. I've yet to see a payday loan open up in SF to help tech workers buy hardware.

Most people in the US don't drive a new car, and used cars can be had for far less than $40k. An $80k purchase would be just shy of the median annual household income -- anyone who thinks nothing of that has financial resources far above typical. You are in a bubble.

An $80k purchase is far more affordable when you're looking at an 84 month loan. You trade in your current $20k truck with $30k in debt on it for your $80,000 car, get a couple grand in incentives and a $10k down payment, and boom you're only looking at a bit under $1,200/mo in payments. The median household is bringing home ~$84k before taxes, hypothetical person lives in a no income tax state, they take home ~$5k/mo. Easy peasy, its not like you were planning on taking any vacations anyway since you're always working.

What matters is you've got the Duramax HD King Ranch TRD Big-Boy machine. Doesn't matter the cost. You can tow anything, drive anywhere, do anything, and do it all in comfort. Other than parking in a normal parking spot comfortably. Or even park it in your own garage at home.

I've seen this exact scenario many times personally.

Most people in the US can't feasibly hold a job, get groceries, or go to the doctor without having a car.

Spending that kind of moment on a product that gives you personal happiness for years up to decades and then will still have residual worth, which people save up for ages for, is an entirely different proposition than buying a product that may make you faster professionally, but which in the short time can also be achieved by a few dollars worth of subscriptions to a hosted model for even greater effect.

> people save up for ages for

Americans by and large don't do that. Much of the population engages in discretionary spending with debt instruments. Combined with mass innumeracy, they're all oblivious to the true cost of their purchases because they only think of the monthly payment.

The construction is temporary but what are the economic impacts of having a fully operational spaceport that launches 20,000% more tonnage to orbit than the Florida Space Coast?

Probably a great deal of long term economic impact.

One would think the same thing about having some of the biggest chemical manufacturing and refining industries around and yet the people of Louisiana are some of the poorest in the US.

Tons of money flowing through the state. Just to a select few people who own the plants for the most part, not for the people working there day to day. I don't see why one would think that would change.

My friend. If you know anything about Louisiana and their current government is that the people are there to be exploited. This is not going to help the people of the area at all.

You mean the negative economic impacts?
