I really like the yamaha MIDI sound, shame they weren't that popular. Sounds much richer and more expressive than Roland. Roland might be more technically correct, not sure.

That github repository has a sad closing story:

"development and maintaining of this emulator has stopped; this project also caused me pretty severe burnout [...] pressure to relicense the project and usage info/code from my code against my will/without permission or outright license violations"

I think this is wrong - it will likely be PCIe gen 5. Apple doesn't say PCIe gen 6 anywhere and this doubling would be from the previous Mac Studio, which probably had PCIe gen 4. So this would match what happened on macbooks recently - upgrade to PCIe gen 5.

I think someone made incorrect conclusions and everyone just copied them.

Apple did say PCIe Gen 6 - in the original version of the press release. That's where the quote came from. But they have now changed it to exclude the reference to Gen 6:

"Storage performance is up to twice as fast, with a next-generation SSD architecture, delivering industry-leading read and write speeds for rapid project loading, file transfers, and loading huge LLMs."

So it seems like Apple made a mistake in this case. I agree with you that it will likely be PCIe Gen 5 - that's much more logical.

Those were great and 1070 was a great deal. Upgraded to a 3080 from 1070 last year, they are quite reasonably priced now.

Not sure what you mean. Had a mk 4 or what the last one was - excellent. Now on core one (or what the name is for the enclosed one), also great.

buying alcohol without showing an ID might be possible in many places, but it's not a universal right.

It gets better quite quickly though.
