The frontier is evolving so fast: any regulatory regime that started with a map of capabilities that 2025 frontier had is obsolete. Same would be true next year. This just becomes a whackamole and a government which is well-meaning and has good reasons to regulate, will have trouble keeping up.

But we know this about regulations. Like there is a century of literature on how to do this for new tech. It always targets harm prevention first. Well its a double whammy -companies are disincitivized, but also the average consumer does not understand or care what this means.

Most comsumers just want websites to work. Something like SOLID would add friction. People who care about privacy are a vocal minority.

ideally you should be able in a simple way to host your stuff, in this case in a POD. That service should be provided by a utility company, same way we have internet providers now. They will be well regulated and it would be in their interest to safely hold your data because if not, they would face legal and financial consequences.

All other services would read/write from your Pod.
