There are so many China born Chinese employees at Anthropic and OpenAI and I think quite a lot of them have already been recruited as spy . So it is almost impossible to keep secrets from Chinese government.

In fairness, I did most of these interviews last summer, and I know some people have changed. And while I did go a fair bit outside my network to interview people, there are all sorts of hard-to-understand selection effects that come from me being me. A 21 year-old frat boy who tried doing the same kind of interviewing with the people he could find to interview would probably get different results.
But yes, that is indeed what happened. Multiple times, I'd talk to someone that I'd expect to not be reading the code at all (solo founder, mostly nontechnical), then I'd interview him in detail about his workflow and think "Huh, there was absolutely no point in there where he was reading stuff," and then I'd ask "So how much of your time is reading code?" "60, maybe 70%"

Ain't that the truth. It's common to see businesses using systems from the 90s in my line of work, or managing crucial business data and workflows in spreadsheets. Once companies establish a workflow they're often very hesitant to change it due to all the dependencies.
And in a lot of cases they're making the right call. Change is incredibly expensive and risky and if the only real payoff is "it's slightly faster" that's probably not worth it.

My point is that OP, you, and me are descendants of the people who can adjust and pass the filter. It shaped our lineage. We just became too comfy with abundance for a little while and now we need to reach out for our evolutionary advantage.

No one from the comments offer a real solution. They gave advice on how to cope with it not solving the problem. Here is my two cents on a real solution, do a study abroad for a year and choose asian countries (especially china), you will find yourself very popular and will have 10x easier to make friends and girlfriend as long as you are not too weird. (note: i am asian and live in asia, foreigners (assuming from the west) have it much easier here).
Due diligence is a joke in the first place, nobody actually does anything these days beyond flip through some Powerpoints. They think their hockey stick graphs are some diligence but in reality every graph is engineered to be a hockey stick.
The vast majority of whether a deal is good or bad has nothing to do with anything you could be duly diligent about. It has everything do with whether the founders are clever executors to capture market, and the luck of the company in the coming years, the latter you cannot predict.
AI influencers on YouTube were going wild with demos for about 2 weeks around the middle of this year. It was enough to get me to sign up to the manus wait list but by the time they told me I was in I’d realised how superficial the recommendations from the YouTube crowd were. Also I’d seen a few waves of hype like that and realised how bogus the content was.
