Yes, extremely worried. It seems we're on a path to brand new kinds of weapons of mass destruction, and arms races in mass parallelization. How could anyone slow down?

I think at least in the case of targetted viruses you can build the DNA sequence with AI, but actually creating a transmissible virus from a new sequence in the real world is still quite challenging and a relatively large hurdle.

I'm also worried about a thousand other things.

I had to install an add-on in Waterfox to stop Rufus from following me around and interjecting every 2 minutes.

I'd already stopped using Amazon for geopolitical reasons but I needed to get something in an emergency the last week (family member in the hospital, so I bent the rule) first time I'd seen Rufus, even if I wasn't boycotting Amazon for other reasons that monstrosity would have made me consider it.

How so? They are diversifying their production chain so that all their eggs aren't in one basket. Taiwan might be threatened one day but their US, Japan, and German plants will much less likely be in the same danger.

That seems wrong to me - the idea of the "Silicon shield of Taiwain" is that alle the critical cutting edge production is all physically in Taiwan & rigged to be destroyed if Taiwan is ever attacked.

If they do diversify, they are compromising a key policy protecting their homeland, it makes no sense!

Agree 100%, though those folders on any Windows install are a train wreck. Anyone attempting to curate anything within them are met with an endless torrent of garbage being thrown into them by Microsoft and any other app that might be installed. Anyone who's PC I oversee, I always beg them to create their own "My Docs" folder and fill it on their own terms. The Windows user experience is such a mess and MS quit caring that it was a long time ago.

Well, probably not, but I am not engaging in socialization. I am using it to help me decide among competing statistical modeling approaches, or other aspects of my research, including coding, neuroimaging pipelines, and an assortment of other thorny issues that come with longitudinal/developmental neuroscience.

It all feels a bit like Dr. Strangelove just the Ai arms race version. Crazies all around.
