> Today, CMI shares in the excitement of the global mathematical community as we contemplate the announcement that the Navier-Stokes problem has apparently been settled. We hope to see waves of new human understanding unleashed as the innovations behind this work are analysed and interrogated.

That “apparently” feels load-bearing

Unless CMI is playing a double game, hard to tell with academics, this is indeed a giant f-you to OpenAI.

That's how I read it too. They know well that OpenAI have shown no desire to improve human understanding.

> load-bearing

Apart from LLMs, who speaks this way?

I say "doing a lot of heavy lifting" all the time. I have heard people use load-bearing though it's less common. Other than habit I don't see any real advantage to the version I use over load-bearing.

structural engineers?

My honest take is that it was intentional. But yes, Poe’s Law will get referenced a lot in the next months/years I guess.

I think it was obviously intentional because they haven't accepted the solution yet.

The purpose is to announce that they are aware of the claims of a solution, not to announce that a solution has been accepted. They're waiting on the required two year timeline before announcing whether or not the solution is accepted. Their writing reflects that they are explicitly NOT accepting a solution until then.

What a load od corporate drivel. "Interrogated"? Was their need for words so dire?

Per Merriam Webster, an interrogation is "a formal and systematic questioning," which is exactly what is called for when examining a proof.

Personally, I use the word "interrogate" when I want to question an idea without implying I want to discredit it.

It's a common (most common?) word in mathematics in this meaning.

You interrogate a proof.

Come on, man. Not allowing products to generate CP is too high of a bar?

By your logic cops should be focused on the junkies, forget about the cartel

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it didn't actually generate CP, it changed people into bikinis, not actual nudity.

You can go to the beach or (I assume) search on Google and find people of any age wearing bikinis. And that's fine because to normal people (not pedos) it's not something sexual.

I understand that someone specifically editing a minor into less clothing is probably a pedo. Probably the same way someone generating feet gets aroused with that stuff. But that doesn't mean a model generating feet is problematic.

I do think making the model reject the bikini thing is a good idea once you find out it's happening, but let's not pretend it's the same as the model generating actual sexual content.

If you're willing to trust them with all your source code...kudos, I really wish I had your level of trust and delusion

Vibe-slop needs protecting?

Ask sama

Same trick that had 737s falling out the sky (obviously different risk level involved in each )

There’s an alternate universe in which OpenAI stays open, licenses according to revenue, Chinese models don’t gain traction in the US because domestic models take all the capacity…whatever, $1T IPO beats the right answer ever time

> Chinese models don’t gain traction in the US because domestic models take all the capacity…whatever, $1T IPO beats the right answer ever time

The trouble here is how more infrastructure helps OpenAI and Anthropic continue billing at 10/100x Chinese model rates.

Either their models have to be better (to justify the higher prices and margin) or their inference has to be lower cost (which isn't going to happen until they move away from Nvidia).

Black market operators can resell stolen account tokens at a lower price than authentic premier tokens from frontier labs and can host their own infra too. I'm not super convinced frontier model serving without downstream model development on a vertical specific software / knowledge worker "factory" model can work

Excellent, that’s what people have been doing for 40 years. Surely that means the models have 0 hope of finding successful attack vectors

Remember when OpenAI were wise enough to know OpenAI should be…open?

Greed will cost America the entire AI market at this rate

You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain

But yes types are necessary for enterprise adoption. Even more important for agentic adoption.

Most massive studios have their own which they use across a bunch of titles
